2012-09-09来源:CCTV9

Rescue workers have been working day and night to save victims and evacuate residents hit by the earthquakes that jolted mountainous Southwest China’s Yunnan and Guizhou provinces Friday. Relief materials have been sent to the area to help people get through the crisis. Yang Xiaoting takes a look.

Relief materials are arriving by the hour to help those affected by the deadly earthquakes.

More than 10 thousand tents have been sent and other disaster relief materials, such as drinking water and food, have arrived and more are on the way.

Meanwhile, rescue workers are racing against time to save people and evacuate residents.

However, as most roads in the mountainous region are blocked by landslides, rescuers often have to walk to the quake-hit areas and carry the injured to where ambulances are waiting.

In local hospitals, medical staff are working long hours to attend to the injured.

Kang Rui, Nurse of Yiliang People's Hospital, said, "I’m so touched by these people. They are very strong spiritually. I believe we can conquer the disaster. The houses are gone but we can rebuild them. Everything will be fine as long as we are alive."

There has been some good news: four babies have been born in temporary hospitals set up after the quakes.

Around 3,000 men and officers from the People’s Liberation Army, armed police and militia, and 4, 000 reserves are now involved in the rescue operation, and the situation in the quake zone is stable.
