土耳其总理会见抗议者
Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has held a meeting with anti-government protesters at his residence in the country’s capital, Ankara.
It came just hours after he issued a "final warning", demanding an end to the occupation of the Gezi Park at Taksim Square in central Istanbul. Hundreds of protesters have rallied on the streets of Ankara, in sympathy with the Gezi Park activists. The demonstration quickly turned violent, with police firing tear gas and rubber bullets.
Istanbul’s Governor has also hosted a midnight meeting with protesters at a cafe near Taksim Square, vowing to consult with them "until the morning if necessary", to find a solution to the sit-in. Erdogan has maintained a hard line against the demonstrations since they began two weeks ago and spread across the country, denouncing the protesters as looters and vandals.
