东盟外长会议揭开序幕
The 46th meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers is scheduled to kick off in Brunei on Sunday. Foreign ministers from ASEAN’s ten member states and ten dialogue partners are gathering in the capital city of Bandar Sri Begawan.
The meeting is set to speed up the composing of a legally binding code of conduct to address sovereignty issues on the South China Sea.
Meanwhile, Japan is aiming to mend its relations with China and South Korea, which have been largely marred due to island rows.
According to Japan’s Kyodo News, the Japanese Minister Fumio Kishida will seek communication with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi through informal talks. He also aims to meet his South Korean counterpart Yun Byung-se during the meeting.
Such a meeting, once achieved, would be the first meeting between Japanese and South Korean foreign ministers since Abe took office last December.
