奥巴马会见曼德拉的家人
US President Barack Obama has addressed a joint news conference with his South African counterpart Jacob Zuma. It’s the second day of Obama’s visit to South Africa.
During the press conference, Obama wished a quick recovery to former South African leader Nelson Mandela, who spent his 22nd day in hospital for a recurring lung infection. Obama has called Mandela a "personal hero".
President Zuma added that Mandela’s condition remains critical but stable after showing some improvement in the past two days. After speaking to the press, Obama met privately with members of Mandela’s family. The meeting took place at the Mandela Centre of Memory in Johannesburg.
Obama will not visit Mandela in hospital in accordance with the family’s wishes. The President also paid a visit to the University of Johannesburg, Soweto Campus. At the same time police fired stun grenades outside the campus at protesters against Obama’s visit. Obama will end his stay in South Africa on Sunday.
