Its capital, Hangzhou has issued the highest red alert. Shanghai had its 21st hot day of the month on Saturday. The city is suffering medium-level air pollution, with high ozone levels.

In neighboring Jiangsu Province, a five-decade record in terms of the number of hot days in July has been made. Hot weather has persisted in southern and eastern China since early July. Forecasters say the high temperatures will continue for another ten days.
