沙特妇女争取女性开车权
Women in Saudi Arabia got behind the wheel, kicking off a campaign protesting the ban on women driving in the kingdom.
Despite warnings by police and ultraconservatives against defying the ban, more than 60 women took to the roads on Saturday.
Women have been posting videos almost daily of themselves driving, since the campaign’s website was launched in late September, enraging conservatives who have accused the government of not doing anything to stop women from flouting the ban.
Though no specific Saudi law bans women from driving, women are not issued licenses. Protesters hope the campaign will work.
"It’s been 23 years since the first campaign of the same sort and there’s no progress on the issue. So we're hoping this time is different," blogger and writer Tamador Alyami said.
