Thousands of people have taken to the streets of South Korea's capital of Seoul to demand an official apology and compensation from the Japanese government for the use of "comfort women", or sex slaves, during World War II.
Former sex slaves joined Wednesday's protest, which comes ahead of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's statement marking the 70th anniversary of the end of the war.
As many as 200,000 Korean women were forced to work in Japanese military brothels during the war.
