习大大在越南国会发表重要演讲

Chinese President Xi Jinping has delivered a speech to the Vietnamese parliament in Hanoi.  Xi reviewed the history of both countries in seeking national independence. He told Vietnamese lawmakers China is willing to work with their government to improve bilateral relations.

It's rare for a head of foreign state to address Vietnam's Parliament.  The honor came to Xi Jinping.

The Chinese president reviewed the history of both countries in seeking national independence. Xi said China and Vietnam should take the opportunity of celebrating 65 years of diplomatic ties to keep their overall relationship in the right direction, and ensure the traditional friendship be passed on to the next generation.

The president also called for deepening and reinforcing mutually beneficial cooperation.  He noted it's brought tangible benefits to the two peoples and is conducive to regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Xi Jinping said the China-Vietnam relationship has strategic importance. He believes both countries are capable of dispelling disruptions in bilateral ties.

Xi began his two-day state visit on Thursday.  Vietnam is the first leg of his two-nation Asia tour, which will take him to Singapore on Friday afternoon.
