Today marks World Water Day. This year’s theme of 'Water and Jobs' focuses on how water can change workers' lives and livelihoods and even transform societies and economies.
The UN says an estimated three out of four jobs globally are dependent on water, meaning that shortages and lack of access are likely to limit economic growth in the coming decades. About 1.5 billion people - half the world's workers - are employed in industries heavily dependent on water, most of them in farming, fisheries and forestry.
This year, China will control its national total water consumption to under 670 billion cubic meters. The water consumption intensity will also be reduced by about 20% from that of 2015.
