instruction的常见用法及相关可数性

1. 表示“讲授”“指导”“教导”等，是不可数名词。如：

Over 500 pupils are receiving instruction here. 500多名小学生在这儿接受教育。

表示在某人的指导下或接受指导，用介词 under。如：

We work under Mr Smith’s instruction. 我们在史密斯先生的指导下工作。

用于under instruction，表示“在接受教育”。如：

He’s not trained yet; he’s still under instruction. (=being instructed) 他还未训练成熟；还在接受教育。

2. 表示“命令”“指示”等，是可数名词，但多用复数形式。如：

Since it is an instruction, I will carry it out. 既然是命令，我遵照执行。

表示做某事的指示或命令，后接不定式或 that 从句。如：

We got no instructions to leave the city. 我们没接到离开这座城市的指示。

We received instructions that we (shall, should) arrest him. 我们接到了逮捕他的命令。

表示按照某人的指示或奉某人的命令，通常用介词 on。如：

I did it on his instructions. 我是奉他的指示做此事的。

有时表示的“指示”，其实是指“指路”。如：

He followed the instruction to walk along a certain street where I picked him up. 他照吩咐沿某一条街走，我在那里接他上了车。

用于under instructions，表示“奉命”“接到指示”。如：

3. 表示“说明”“须知”等，通常只用复数形式。如：

I have read the instructions but I don’t understand them. 我已经看了说明，但没看懂。

When it is taken according to the instructions, the drug has no side effects. 若按说明服用，本药无任何副作用。

若用于名词前作定语，用单数。如：

I lost the instruction book and so I had to find out how to use the machine by trial and error. 我把说明书丢失了，结果只得通过不断摸索才弄懂怎样使用这部机器。
