5.5 Children’s Education 子女教育

W: Tommy played truant today. His teacher called me this morning.

W：汤米今天逃课了，他的老师早上打电话给我了。

M: Where did he go?

M：他去了哪里？

W: I've asked him, but he won't tell me. What should we do about this? He is like you. I remember when we were at the college, you always skipped classes.
W：我问过他了，但是他不愿告诉我。对此，我们该怎么办？他和你一样，我记得我们上大学的时候你就总是逃课。

M: Like me? But you see I am so successful now. And if he is really like me, he will be more successful than me in the future.

M：像我？可是你看，我现在这么成功，如果他像我的话，他将来会更成功的。

W: Stop, stop… We are talking about our son's attendance for classes and his study. Maybe we could give him a little bit money to pay to go to school.
W：打住打住，我们现在谈的是我们儿子的出勤问题和他的学习，也许我们可以给他点儿钱让他去上学。

M: Pay him? But he studies for himself, not for you or for me or for anybody else. I got an idea. You should send him to class every morning and after the class begins, you can go to work.
M：他去上课就给他开工资么？他可是为他自己学习，不是为你、为我，也不是为任何人。我有主意了！你可以每天早上送他去学校，等他上课后你再去工作。

W: In that way, I'll be late every day. How about letting him go to school on school bus?
W：那样的话，我每天都会迟到的，让他坐校车去学校怎么样？

M: That's a good idea. Why have I never thought of that?
M：这是个好主意，我怎么就没想到呢？

W: That's because I went to school for each class when I was at school. So now I am much more clever than you.
W：那是因为我上学的时候每节课都去，所以现在我比你聪明。

注释：

“play truant”是固定用法，指“逃学，旷课”。
