讲解:词语盛行于19世纪以后,但却出自于15世纪-16世纪,海盗活动猖獗的时候。相传海盗面目狰狞,手持凶器,牙齿间还咬着一把把尖刀。为形象生动,汉语中把它中文译文为“武装到牙齿”,喻指全副武装。

英语情景对话:

A: All the soldiers in that country are armed to the teeth.
A :那个国家的士兵全部都全副武装起来了。

B: What’s happening in that country?
B :发生什么事情了。

A: The neighboring country is threatening their sovereignty with its nuclear bombs.
A :邻国正在用核弹威胁他们呢。

英语学习笔记:

1.armed to teeth全副武装

Eg .The soldiers were armed to the teeth and ready to fight.
战士们全副武装,准备战斗。

Eg .They were armed to the teeth, ready for any emergency.
他们已全副武装, 随时准备应急。

Eg .They were quite unarmed, but their determined onslaught made them more terrifying than if they had been armed to the teeth.
她们并没有武器,可是她们那来势就比全副武装的人狠得多又多!

Eg .The whole nation took up arms to defend their country, although the enemy were armed to the teeth.
