Bob: Well, I understand English much better than I speak it at the
moment. But I study at home and I look forward to learning
more on the job.
您听出来了吗？鲍勃就是这样将自己的缺点转化成了应征工作时的
一个积极因素。他通过这样的说法首先承认自己有不足的地方，同
时又说明自己愿意改进。哪一个雇主会有理由不雇用这样的员工
呢？
在接下来的课文中，请注意当鲍勃没有完全明白杰斯丁提出的问题
时他是如何回应的。
杰斯丁： 你觉得你有什么缺点吗？
Justine: And what do you see as your weaknesses?
鲍勃： 您的意思是说有什么事情是我所不擅长的吗？
Bob: Do you mean, what am I not so good at?
杰斯丁： 是的。
Justine: Yes.
在这种情况下，鲍勃原本可以要求杰斯丁rephrase 她的问题，也
就是说请杰斯丁换一个说法提出她的问题。但是鲍勃想表明自己可
以用自己的方式去理解杰斯丁的问题。所以他用了这样一个短语来
开始他的问话： Do you mean……? 您的意思是说。。？请跟着
老师一起来练习这个句子。
Do you mean…?
Do you mean what am I not so good at?
Rephrase.
Could you rephrase that please?

Justine: Bob, what strengths do you think you would
bring to the job?
Bob: Oh, ah. I am patient …
Bob: …and I’ve been told I put clients at ease.
Justine: Uh huh.. And what do you see as your weaknesses?
Bob: Do you mean, what am I not so good at?
Justine: Yes.
