2014-12-21来源:和谐英语

Cred, short for 'credibility', that is, among your peer group.
Cred是‘credibility'(信誉/可信度)的缩写,而这个缩写形式只在你们这辈人中使用。

It started out in the late 1970s, in the phrase 'street cred', which meant having reputation or status among your mates or your friends on the street.
上个世纪70年代的时候, 在street cred这个短语里,street cred的意思是你在朋友哥们儿之间的‘街头信誉/名声’。

And then it became more general - the phrase became fashionable, trendy, that was the meaning.
然后cred就变得普遍了——这个词变得流行起来,成为‘时尚’、‘时髦’的意思。

It had an adjective use, people said things like, 'That's a cred show!' or 'You're wearing cred jewellery!' - meaning fashionable jewellery, trendy jewellery.
它还有种形容词的用法,比如人们会说这样的话‘That's a cred show!'(那就是一场时装秀!)或者‘You're wearing cred jewellery!'——你戴的首饰真时髦!

But it was mainly as a noun that it came into widespread use.
但是它是作为名词才被广泛传播开来的。

It meant sort of belief, or persuasiveness, or something that goes down well with an audience.
cred在某种程度上代表了某种信仰或者使人信服的东西,或者是能为观众所接受的东西。
