Hurricane Matthew steamed toward Florida Thursday with winds at 140 mph. 2 million people across the Southeast were warned to board up their homes and flee inland to escape the most powerful storm to threaten the Atlantic Coast in more than a decade.
The United Nations Security Council has formally approved Portugual's former prime minister Antonio Guterres to replace Ban Ki-moon as Secretary-General. The recommendation now goes for a vote in the 193-member General Assembly which is expected to take place some time next week.
President Barack Obama honored the Pittsburgh Penguins at a White House ceremony for winning their fourth Stanley Cup. Obama says he has now been able to celebrate with eight Stanley Cup winners during his presidency, all from the the U.S. and beginning with the Penguins.
And Kim Kardashian West and husband Kanye West have left the New York apartment they were staying at following the armed robbery of Kardeshian West in Paris on Monday. Five people are suspected of assaulting and robbing Kardashian West of more than $10 million worth of jewelry. There has been no arrest in the case.
