The number of laid-off Americans seeking employment benefits fell to 787,000 last week, according to the U.S. Labor Department Thursday. While still historically high, the slight ease in joblosses signals the job market is still recovering from the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Democratic serators holding a news conference outside Capitol Hill were interrupted by protesters dressed as characters from the show 'The Handmaid's Tale', accusing Democrats of "collaborating with the process."
Hundreds in and around a gateway town to Rocky Mountain National Park were forced to evacuate Wednesday as several fires continue to burn in northern Colorado. The fires have grown from 30 to 196 square miles and more than 100 structures have been damaged or destroyed.
Poland's top court ruled Thursday that a law allowing the abortion of fetuses with congenital defects is unconstitutional. The decision effectively bans the termination of pregnancies in cases where birth defects are found, further limiting access to abortions across that country.
