President Trump and Democrat Joe Biden got through their second debate without the constant interruptions that marked their first one. The debate, held in Nashville, included discussions of the coronavirus, China, North Korea, crime and global warming.
The FDA approved the first drug for the treatment of COVID-19. Remdesivir is an antiviral medicine given to hospitalized patients through an IV.

The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett, with only Republicans voting. Democrats walked out to protest what they called a rush to put Barrett on the court before the election.
A wildfire in Colorado grew quickly, burning close to 200 square miles by Thursday. The fire forced a town to evacuate close to Rocky Mountain National Park.
