The Palestinian government of President Mahmoud Abbas says Israel's decision to release 250 prisoners from the Fatah faction doesn't go far enough. The Israeli move was seen as an attempt to boost President Abbas' emergency administration in the West Bank after the rival Hamas faction seized control of Gaza. Bethany Bell has more details.
The Palestinian Minister of Prisoner Affairs Ashraf Ajrami said he welcomed every release of Palestinian detainees and prisoners, but he said 250, was a very small number. Israel is currently holding around 10,000 Palestinian prisoners, some without charge. Israeli officials have not yet finalized the names of those who are to be freed. Mr. Ajrami said his government wanted to see the release of political leaders, women and those who are ill.
An Afghan intelligence official says four senior Taliban commanders have been arrested in the western Pakistani city of Kheta. The official told the BBC that the four were close aides to the fugitive Taliban leader Mullah Omar and included the Taliban's commander in the southern province of Oruzgan. They were arrested in an operation by Pakistani security forces.
In tennis, Roger Federer of Switzerland has won the Wimbledon singles final for the fifth successive time, equaling a record set by Bjorn Borg twenty five years ago. The defending champion beat Rafael Nadal of Spain in five sets after one of the most fiercely contest of men's finals in recent years.
Police in Iraq said at least twenty three army recruits have been killed by a suicide bomber near the town of Fallujah. It came a day after a major truck bombing in northern Iraq. From Baghdad, Andrew North reports.
It's been a bloody weekend across Iraq with scores of violent incidents. Police now say at least 150 people were killed by a truck bomb detonated early on Saturday in the small farming town of Emily about a hundred miles north of Baghdad. There are some bodies still thought to be buried under the collapsed buildings. It may be the worst single attack yet and has been blamed on Al-Qaeda. The extreme Sunni group is also believed to be behind the suicide attack on army recruits in Fallujah who had only just signed up.
A train carrying Indian government officials has arrived in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka marking the resumption of direct rail service between the two neighbors. The line was suspended in 1965 when India and Pakistan went to war. Since then, if you couldn't afford the airfare, the only alternative was a grueling bus journey. This Bangladeshi man said that would be affordable for people needing the service. "That would be very helpful. People would be happy. Many people from Bangladesh going India for treatment. And many people from India usually coming to Bangladesh to meet their relations. -----."

The plane manufacturer of Boeing is launching what it says the most environmentally friendly commercial aircraft ever built. The fuselage and wings of the dream liner 787 are made from carbon fiber rather than aluminum making it lighter and more fuel efficient. But environmentalists say the cheaper running cost will encourage more people to fly.
The French President Nicholas Sarkozy says he plans to abandon the practice of granting a massive release of prisoners to mark Bastille Day, the national holiday on July 14. Mr. Sarkozy told a French newspaper that mass pardons were not a way to manage a country's prison service. The practice was introduced to commemorate the storming of the Bastille prison in Paris in 1789.
The Australian government has warned its citizens that a terrorist attack on Indonesia could be imminent and has advised them not to go there. The Department of Foreign Affairs said terrorists were actively planning attacks on western interests and places frequented by foreigners. It said Australians should particularly avoid known targets, such as the island of Bali where more than 200 people were killed in Bombings in 2002. The Foreign Minister Alexander Downer explained why they were particularly worried this time. "We have a constant afflux of information coming in from Indonesia about possible terrorist attacks. And that's why we think it's now timely to revise our travel advisory."
The authorities in the Chinese province of Hunan said that in the space of five years nearly 2000 officials broke the country's ban on having more than one child. One legislator had four children by four different mistresses. The official Xinhua news agency said some of the breaches of the one child policy only came to light during corruption investigations.
Motor racing and the British Grand Prix has been won by Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari, with Fernando Alonso second in the McLaren. The young British driver Lewis Hamilton was third.
