President Trump has formally block to demand from Democrats in the US Congress to hear testimony from the former White House counsel Don McGahn. Mr. McGahn had been due to be questioned about whether Mr. Trump illegally abstracted investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. The recent report by the US Special Counsel Robert Mueller includes accounts of phone calls in which the president allegedly ordered Mr. McGahn to have him sacked.

A French court has ordered doctors to resume life support for a quadriplegic man whose case has become central to the right-to-die debate in France. Intervention came as doctors had begun switching off his life support. Here is David Bamford.

Vincent Lambert has been in a vegetative state since a motorcycle accident in 2008. His care has divided the country and his family. His wife had called for his feeding chips to be withdrawn. His parents insisted he be kept alive. A judicial ruling determined that Mr. Lambert should be removed from life support and that process had begun. But in a dramatic reversal, the Paris Court of Appeal has now ordered life support measures be reinstated.

The Nicaraguan government has released a hundred political prisoners in an apparent attempt to avoid the collapse of talks with the opposition. The activists were detained for alleged public disorder offenses during street protests a year ago. Our America's editor Leonardo Rocha reports.

The prisoners are expected to serve the rest of their sentences at home. Many said they had been beaten up and tortured in prison. The government's announcement came shortly after the opposition umbrella group, the Civic Alliance, said it was spooling out from talks with President Daniel Ortega. It accused Mr. Ortega of breaching his promises to release all Nicaraguan political prisoners. The political crisis began in April last year, triggered by government cuts to pensions and social programs.

A Guatemalan teenager has died in custody in the United States a week after being detained by Texas border patrol agents. The sixteen-year-old, who hasn't been named, is the fifth under-age migrant to die in similar circumstances since December. All the victims were Guatemala nationals who had entered the US illegally through the Mexican border in order to apply for asylum. The authorities in Washington said they regretted the tragic loss.

The photo and video sharing site Instagram says it's investigating reports that a huge database of its contact had been shared online by an Indian firm. According to the technology news site, Techcrunch, a marketing company called Chtrbox was responsible for compiling information relating to some forty-nine million accounts.
