A US congressional committee controlled by democrats has voted in favor of summoning 12 of President Trump’s current and former officials to testify about alleged corruption and obstruction of justice in the White House. Republicans have criticized the committee’s actions as partisan.

The US State Department has condemned what it called the Iranian revolutionary guard’s attempts to harass Britain’s an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran denies confronting with any foreign ships in the gulf, but Britain’s Navy said it had to intervene on Wednesday to protect a merchant vessel from Iranian military craft.

Two United Nations’ agencies have urged the European Union to resume navy patrols in the Mediterranean to rescue migrants. They also said support for the Libyan costal guard should be made conditional on any rescued migrants that returned to Libya not being detained.

A court has for the first time ordered the German government to bring family members of the suspected Islamic State fighter back to Germany. The case concerns three children and their mother living in a refugee camp in Syria.

The Chilean President Sebastian Pinera has signed into law a bill which removes the statute of limitations on sex crimes involving children. Previously, child sexual abuse had statute of limitations between 5 and 10 years.

The Mayor of New Orleans has warned that a tropical storm moving towards the coast of Louisianan could bring 48 hours of continuous rain. Latoya Cantrell warned residents to seek shelter or leave the city.

There are growing signs that Saudi Arabia may be planning to ease its rules on male guardianship of women. Sources in the kingdom have reportedly said that rules on women needing the permission of a male relative to travel may be relaxed.

And Madagascar’s exciting run in the Africa Cup of Nations has ended in a 3-0 defeat by Tunisia in the quarter final. Madagascar with little football tradition had never reached the tournament finals, but came top of its group before beating the Democratic Republic of Congo in the first knockout round.
