Boris Johnson, the British prime minister, says he wants parliament to agree to hold a general election on December,12th, if European union grants Britain a Brexit extension. He said if opponents agree, then they will have until November,6th to debate his proposed Brexit legislation.

China has been on the receiving end of a fierce attack by the U.S vice president Joe Biden, ahead of the fresh trade talks between the two countries. Mr.Pence said Beijing has violated the rights of the people of Hong Kong, and tries to expose censorship. But he added that Washington wants to avoid more confrontation with Beijing.

Spain's prime minister Pedro Sánchez has defended today's exhumation and reburial of the former dictator Francisco Franco. Mr.Sánchez said the dictator's veneration in a public space was affront to democracy.

Italian police have arrested 15 people and broke up a Mafia-run plastic recycling racket. They send toxic material from Sicily to China. A scam was discovered after Chinese made shoes containing contaminated plastic were found on sale in Italy. The gang's ringleader and other accomplices were arrested on a range of offences.

Amazon, the world's biggest online retailer has reported an unexpected drop in quarterly profits. That income was down despite rise in sales of 70 billion dollars between July and September. Amazon's share fell by 8%.

An evacuation order is in force in part of the wine country north of San Francisco in California, after a small blaze turned into a raging uncontained wildfire. Residents in Sonoma country have been warned over an extreme threat to life.

And scientists studying the humble earthworm have compiled the first ever global analytics of their range and locations. It hopes the findings will help protect the squirmy creatures.
