British police have shot dead a man in a fake suicide vest to stab a pass-by on a bridge in central London. Officials told BBC the suspect killed two people and injured several others before he was tackled by members of the public. Police say they think he had a bogus explosive device. They are treating it as a terrorist incident.

The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is due to chair a meeting of the government's Emergency Committee shortly. He praised what he said was the extraordinary bravery of the public who intervened, adding that Britain would never be intimidated by such attacks.

A court in Suriname has sentenced president Desi Bouterse to 20 years in prison for the murder of 50 of his political opponents in 1982. Mr.Bouterse is in China on an official visit and will have two weeks to appeal against the conviction. He has previously denied the accusations.

The president of Mexico Andrés Manuel López Obrador has said armed foreigners will not be permitted to operate in his country. Earlier this week, president Trump said United States will designate Mexico's drug cartels as terrorist organizations.

Maltese police have released on bail the businessman Yorgen Fenech after more than a week of questioning about the murder of the journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. He denies any wrongdoing.

NATO's figures showed that nine of the 29 member states are meeting the targets of committing two percent of the national gross domestic product to defense. This compares to just three states five years ago.

In France, there have been protests against Amazon on the impact of the online shopping service on the environment. Coinciding with Black Friday, a discount shopping day, demonstrators gathered outside Amazon's French headquarters and other locations around the country. 

A bear that became known in Greece as the first in the world to use a wheelchair has died. The four-year-old animal was unable to walk and used a wheelbarrow fashioned into a wheelchair to get around. He died from kidney failure unrelated to his spinal injury.
