President Trump says he intends to reintroduce tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Brazil and Argentina because of unfair trade practices. He accused the two countries of devaluing their currencies and hurting US farmers and manufacturers. Brazil steel industry has called the move unfounded.

In an open rebuke to President Trump's climate skepticism, the leading democrat Nancy Pelosi has told an UN climate conference in Madrid that her delegation is there to send a clear message that the US Congress's commitment to take action on the climate crisis is iron-clad.

Donald Trump's re-election campaign says it will no long issue press credentials to reporters working for Bloomberg news, the agency owned by the democratic presidential hopeful Micheal Bloomberg. It's said the decision had been prompted by the agency's recent announcement that it will not investigate Mr.Bloomberg or his Democratic rivals. But Bloomberg's editor-in-chief dismissed accusations of bias.

President Putin has signed a legislation requiring all smart phones, computers and smart TVs to be sold with pre-installed Russian apps and programs. The law which has come into force from July is being represented as a way to help Russian software developers compete with foreign companies and avoid the predicament faced by Chinese Huawei when the US introduced sanctions.

At least 30 civilians are reported to have been killed in two separate battles zones in Northern Syria. Syrian activists say 13 people died when a market was hit by government air strikes in the town of Maarat al-Nauman in the mainly opposition-held province of Idlib. Six others were killed in bombardments by government and Russian forces elsewhere in the province.

Typhoon Kmmuri has made landfall in the Philippines. 200,000 residents were evacuated from coastal to mountainous areas for fear of flooding and landslides.

And a senior Red Cross official has crticised the lack of international funding for humanitarian aid in Venezuela. Francesco Rocca said he had asked for 50 million dollars in aid in September for Venezuela but received less than 10 percent of the funds.
