Taliban has confirmed that negotiations with the United States have concluded and an agreement to end 18 years of conflict in Afghanistan has been finalized. Lyse Doucet has more details. The hardest part is just beginning. Sometime this week, there will be a first test of Taliban intentions, a 7-day partial truce, what's called the reduction in violence. If it works, a complex agreement will be signed, including a series of Taliban security guarantees and a phased and conditional pullout of US troops. The US envoy to the talks Zalmay Khalilzad wrote on Twitter that there was a difficult and complicated road ahead. Most difficult of all will be the talks among Afghans expected to begin soon after this first deal is signed.

The reports from Burkina Faso that at least 24 people have been killed during an attack on a church in the North of the country. The country has seen a rise in attacks by Islamic militants.

Police in Rwanda say a Rwandan singer who was arrested last week whilst trying to leave the country illegally has committed suicide in custody. Kizito Mihigo, a well-known gospel singer and television presenter was accused of fleeing the country to join a rebel group in neighboring Burundi. Police say the 38-year-old was found dead in his cell in the capital Kigali. In 2015, he was sentenced to 10 years in jail after being convicted of planning to kill President Paul Kagame and inciting hatred against the government. He was later pardoned, but was not allowed to leave the country without permission from the authorities.
General Motors has said it will reach retire the historic Australian car brand Holden as it's no longer competitive. The American car giant will end Holden sales design and engineering operations in Australia and new Zealand by next year. Up to 600 jobs will be lost. The Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he was disappointed and angry at the news.

The former Manchester United goalkeeper Harry Gregg, who survived the Munich air disaster in 1958, has died at the age of 87. Gregg was hailed as a hero for pulling people from the wreckage. They included the future England World Cup winner Bobby Charlton as well as a pregnant Yugoslav woman and her young daughter. Alex Stepney, who took over as United goalkeeper from Gregg, pay tribute to him. His contribution to the game was incredible. He was fierce. I mean proved that in 1958 in Munich. He aimed to do what he did and go and pull Bobby out and also make me out of that total disaster. He showed you the kind of man.
