Foreign investors have been coming into China since the country began its reform and opening up policy 30 years ago. And most of them have made a fortune; the early birds have caught their worms. But is it too late for the new comers? Is there still abundant opportunity to open new businesses in China? And what lessons should be learned in advance when starting a business in the country?
Jack Perkowski is probably one of the most qualified businessmen to answer the questions. Brought up in Pittsburgh, US, educated at Yale and Harvard, Perkowski came to China in 1992 after almost 20 years on Wall Street. He then started his joint venture, which has become one of the most important players in China's automotive components industry. Talking to voices From Other Lands, he gave his secrets of being a successful businessman, his managerial expertise, and his vision about future business opportunities in China, all written in his new book, Managing the Dragon.
Jack Perkowski said although there are great challenges ahead for China, he is optimistic about the future of the country. Hard working Chinese people, who place importance on family values and education impressed him when he first came to China, and made him strongly believe in an open and prosperous nation.
