Imagine you are looking through the eyes of the terminator. In "Terminator 2", Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character scans of all to find an outfit he wear, as he looks at people, their clothing sizes appear on screen,layering information from the digital world like that onto the real world is called Augmented Reality or AR.

It may seem futuristic ,but AR raps are already available on Google Android phones, as well as the iPhone. Now this one is linked to wikipedia , so as I pan the screen around, it shows us various local landmarks and just how far away they are, so where is the nearest subway station, now AR can literally point you in the right direction, so, how does it work?

-The key is that the phone is able to know where you are pointing it at, because of the compass, and also knows where you are because of the GPS, and because of the camera we can get the reality on your screen, so we combine all of that together with the information of the restaurants, of the houses for sale, etc, and that makes it all happen, that’s the magic basically that happens.

Maarten Lens-FitzGerald company has its own AR rap, the Layer Reality Browser's open to developers to add their own layers to show whatever they can think of, for example, this layer shows you where is the nearest HSBC bank is in Hong Kong and it's telling me it’s right over there. One layer in the United States is linked to the recovery act, it points out who got bailout money from the US government, now, surprisingly, Layer sees a big future in AR.

-I think it’s gona be a key application on the phone, just as here you're uesed to calling on the phone, AR just being able to get contacts relevant information around you in a natural manner, that’s ganna be the second application next to voice.

And magazines are also getting in on the AR, the December issue of Esquire will trigger a 3D animation when you hold up a two-webcam on a computer running special software, but AR is not just about information, it’s also about having fun.

This is the iPet for the play station 3.The camera there, at the top, it reads the card and turns it into virtual trembling so you can play with your digital pet, I'd like to call this little guy Floyd ,this is definitely not as useful as finding your way to the nearest subway station ,but, woops, come on board, it’s a lot of fun, it's a good example about Augmented Reality.
