We're here at the Moscow Motor Show, I'm joined by Toshiyuki Shigo. He is the Chief Operating Officer of Nissan. Mr. Shigo, thank you very much for being with us here in the Russian capital. I want to ask you first of all, as, you know, one of the top Japanese motor manufacturers, the impact of the strength of the yen at the moment, the impact that's having on your global sales.
I have very big concerns about current trend of yen appreciations. Now we've, also Japanese automotive industries start the recovery in financials. But if yens are appreciated, we will lose that competitiveness export from Japan to other countries. So there, actually we will have the big impact of the financials and we are now asking to the government to take some of the counter measure of this appreciation.
Do you think the government in Tokyo is listening to you? Will they act, do you think, to devalue the yen?
I'm also, you know, they call currently that the chairman of Japan Automobile Association. And two weeks ago, we sent a letter to the Japanese government to take some counter measure for this appreciation. I'm sure that the most operative counter measure is intervention at source. But, anyway, that this situation cannot be continuous.
All right, right, here we are at the Moscow Motor Show, but briefly let's talk about the global motor industry, obviously as one of the sectors that was most severely affected in the global economic downturn. But what, are the brakes still on it or has it turned the corner?
Yeah. Actually, you know, that, really, as the global automobile industries now start recovering. However, still, very unstable. For example, the Europe, after Finnish of the government is sending some countries' TRBs down. But now here in Russia market is growing significantly this month, 40% to 50% increase against last year's. And also United States start the recovery steadily, but speed of the recovery is not the expected level, it's still slow. And as I said, the Japanese market is also recovering, but this is boosting the government insanity. I'm afraid, it was this, you know, the government's insanity. We will have difficulty to have some rebound.
Obviously, Russia over several years is one of the most dynamic car markets (Yes, yes)in the world, but last year the Motor Show was canceled because of the economic downturn. This year, 2010, is it back with a vengeance? Isn't it? Is it accelerating? How about use too many motor appreciate?
Yeah. Actually now it starts, you know, the recovery. And may be at this year that the, I don't think that we will not back to the before-crisis level within this year. But within three years, I think I'm sure that the Russian market back to the before-crisis level around 2.9 million, 3 millions and steadily growing for the future.
All right, Tashiyuki Shigo of Nissan, thank you very much.
Thank you.
