西方求职者到亚洲找工作

2011-05-23来源:CNN

With bull runs, IPO listings, and lucrative property deals, Asia has become the center for global economic growth.

"Market trading has started. Congratulations!"

And as the world realizes this continent's enormous potential, thousands of young Americans are making the long-haul flight across the Pacific to forge their careers halfway around the world. 23-year-old Sara Greenberg is one of them, a corporate analyst from New York, who arrived in HongKong just four months ago.

"I think the world is heading out in this direction more and more and so understand how the markets out here work, where the opportunities are, I think it's a huge, huge advantage going forward and the reason that I ended up deciding to come out here."

While the banks, fund managers and law firms are hiring the majority of international recruits, Asia is also becoming very attractive to entrepreneurs.

"Being around people who are enthusiastic and eager to start businesses and eager to get involved in business was a real draw for me."

Michael Tenenbon came to Asia with one of the big banks, but he soon realized he could start his own technology trading business, something he only dreamed about while living in the US.

"Well, what we're doing in terms of a technology venture would not even be possible in the United States just on pure cost basis, right? So we basically came to the market, we said the people, in terms of customers that we want to target, the people who we want to hire for our businesses, our trader analytics are based in Asian."

"Part of the attraction of cities like HongKong is Asia's extraordinary growth, while the US and Europe pursue recovering from the financial crisis, China, for example is expecting more than 9% growth this year. And as long as the opportunities are here in the region, Americans will keep coming."

Recruitment Agency Sheffield Harworth says it's seeing a dramatic increase in the number of professionals moving to Asia. Of its 560 global placements last year, one third of its clients came to Asia, the majority from the US and Europe.

"If you're looking at the post, university out-take, as it works the graduate pool, there is something like 26, 27% level of unemployment in that class of individual which is pretty staggering, that's not the case here where employment levels are materially higher."

While expensive housing, competitive school placements, and language barriers present challenges, many believe lower taxation and a friendly regulatory environment outweigh the negatives.

"I think the benefits are more than just money, I think it's about the opportunity and growth prospects going forward."

And many say that growth won't be slowing down any time soon.
