潍坊国际风筝节揭开序幕
Running until April 27th, the festival showcases ten themed and carefully designed events in four areas, covering kite flying, cultural activities, tourism promotion and business lectures.
Among the kite-related events, the most exciting is sure to be the 8th International Kite-Flying Championship held at the Fuyanshan International Kite Flying Field on Sunday.
This year, teams from 67 countries and regions have been invited to compete in the contests, which include competitions and performance exhibitions.
Henwood Giorgia is from the Austrian team.
"It's my second time here in Weifang, and I really enjoy it. I did enjoy it last year; otherwise, I wouldn't have come back. Kites are part of my life and the most important part after my children. Flying kites creates a very special feeling. It's a feeling of peace and freedom. And what I like most is that everyone flying a kite is always smiling. That's so nice, and it gives a very special atmosphere to the event."
The competition's prizes are awarded for the longest, largest, best overall performance and best traditional kite, as well as best inflatable.
Along with the traditional kite-flying competition, the 5th Art & Culture Trade Fair will be held alongside activities from the 2nd Chinese Painting Festival, Kite-flying Performance of Ten-Thousand People and others.
The Weifang International Kite Festival has been held annually since 1984. The event attracts kite enthusiasts from across the world every year.
