当局采取新措施应对H7N9

2013-05-06来源:CRI

The H7N9 avian influenza virus has claimed another life here in China.

A 55-year-old man has died in Hunan.

He was from neighboring Jiangxi.

He died after more than 2-weeks of treatment.

So far 27 of the 127 infected with the H7N9 strain of the virus have died.

26 have fully recovered.

Authorities continue to insist there is no proof the virus is transmitted from human-to-human.

Meantime, Chinese authorities are tightening the protocols surrounding the cleaning and disinfecting of live poultry markets.

Live poultry markets in Guangdong are being alternately shut down throughout this coming weekend for cleaning and disinfection.

The provincial government is also cracking down on illegal markets.

It follows the discovery of a suspected case of the H7 subtype of bird flu in the city of Dongguan.

At the same time, provincial authorities in Shandong say they are going to be handing out subsidies to farmers affected by the bird flu.

"The chicken price used to be about 15 yuan per kilogram. We can sell about 30 chickens a day now if the business is good, but sometimes it's just a dozen of chickens. We could sell more than 100 chickens a day before the H7N9 outbreak."

Individual farmers will be eligible for a subsidy of 15-yuan for every chicken.

Companies are going to get 100 yuan per ton.
