Manchester City will pay all of Frank Lampard's wages during his loan spell from New York City, amid suggestions they are using the deal to bypass UEFA's Financial Fair Play Regulations. Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger questioned whether the move was designed to "get around" the FFP rules - which City failed last season. This complicated issue centres on Manchester City part-owning three other clubs around the world. Wenger's suggestion is they might use such relationships to circumvent European football's break even rules. Among the ways they could do so is by taking players from those clubs on loan, that would potentially see City avoid paying their transfer fees and salaries and in the case of Lampard help meet homegrown player restrictions placed on City. The Premier League champions refute the claims and insist their signing Lampard purely for football reasons. They'll cover his entire salary in the six months he's with them and say the homegrown factor was a pleasant coincidence.
