旅行的意义不在于风景，在于重新审视自己

Q’s life is now in a stalemate.

Q 的生活现在陷入了一个僵局。

Early in her 30s, she has a decent income and leads a relatively well-to-do middle class life.

However, she feels her life is going nowhere as there will not be any considerable change.

Moreover, her marriage has become dull.

From time to time, she tries to add a touch of color to her life through traveling.

时不时地，她会试图用旅行来给自己的生活增添一点色彩。

This is what she has been interested in since her student days.

这是她从学生时代开始就有的兴趣。

Once before, her destinations were mainly within the country because of financial constraints.

从前，她的旅行比较拮据，主要的目的地也集中在国内。

But now she can afford a larger range of choices.

而现在，随着财富的增长，她可以去的地方越来越多。

Britain, France and Italy, to name a few, are her favorite places to visit.

其中，英国、法国和意大利是她比较喜欢去的地方。

But, although now she travels more, she draws less happiness from traveling than before.

不过，虽然旅行变多了，但旅行带给她的快乐却没有以前那么多了。

She finds that people in different parts of the world are not that different.

她越来越多地发现，世界各地人的区别其实不大。

Everyone’s life is full of similar trivialities.

大家的生活都被同样的一些琐碎给包裹着。

Although she feels free and fresh every time she is out, the feeling does not last long.

虽说每次刚刚出去玩的时候她都觉得获得了自由和新生，但这种感觉过不了多久就会消散。

Traveling is indeed a great activity, but it is far less wonderful than described in the drama shows and documentaries.

旅行的确是个不错的活动，但是真的远没有电视剧和纪录片里描绘的那么美妙。

This reminds Q of the early days of her career.

这让 Q 想起了自己刚开始工作的那段时间。

At the time, she changed her job very frequently.

当时她换工作的频率非常高。

Every time she started a new job, she would soon find something unsuitable for her.

每做一份新工作，过不了多久她总会发现有什么东西不适合自己。

She was not sure what she was fit for, and what she really wanted.

她并不太清楚自己到底适合什么，其实也不太清楚自己到底想要什么。

So she had been switching jobs, trying different roles.

所以她一直在切换，一直在尝试。

Because of that, her career developed very slowly, and she even had a financial crisis at a time.

因为如此，她的职场发展一度非常缓慢，有一段时间甚至发生了经济危机。

Obviously, so many new opportunities and new jobs did not do her much good.

显然，这么多的新机会和新工作并没有给她带来什么好处。

Talking about traveling or new jobs, many people often think of “change of environment, change of mood”.

每每说起旅行或者新工作，很多人想到的往往是“换个环境，换个心情”。

But is it really helpful?

但是这样真的有用吗？

I remember reading a sentence before:

我记得以前看到过一句话：

Life sucks no matter where you are. So don’t be fooled by location changes.

生活在哪都一样烂，别以为换个环境就有用。

This seems a very passive statement, but it does make sense.

这个说法看着似乎很消极，但的确很有道理。

Changing jobs is like traveling. The meaning often does not lie in seeing new landscapes, but rather in examining yourself with new eyes.

换工作就像旅行一样，意义往往并不在于能看到新的风景，而在于能用新的眼光审视自己。

In the end, what you probably find is that these places are not all that different.

而最终，你发现的很可能就是：这些地方其实并没有那么多不同。

Always looking forward to changing the environment, in fact, is running away from the problem instead of solving it.

总是期待换环境，其实是一种逃避，这解决不了任何问题。
