bend over backwards
to try very hard to accomplish something, especially to help or please someone else.
字面意思为向后弯腰，但只是一个比喻，引申义：竭尽全力，拼命或尽最大努力(做某事以达到某种目的)，费很大劲儿(做某事以取悦某人) 。
