体坛英语新闻:Juventus beat Sampdoria to extend club record
MILAN, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Serie A leaders Juventus beat Sampdoria 4-2 at home on Saturday to extend their club consecutive winning record to 12 wins.
Arturo Vidal scored twice, including a penalty, and Fernando Llorente and Paul Pogba were also on target for the hosts. Andrea Barzagli scored an own goal and Juventus' co-owned striker Manolo Gabbiadini also found the net for Sampdoria in the second half.
Juventus picked up the three points to maintain their eight-point advantage at the top over Roma, who beat Livorno 3-0 earlier in the day.
Juventus head coach Antonio Conte praised Sampdoria for coming to attack Juventus.
"I think we did well to prepare this game the right way, otherwise it would' ve been really tough to beat this Sampdoria tonight," he said.
"It' s a shame, as we have to work on the fact most of their chances - and those scored by Cagliari last week - came from corners. We cannot dominate games and always have this anxiety from set plays," he added.
His Sampdoria counterpart Sinisa Mihajlovic admitted Juventus deserved the victory, and was pleased that his side "did not come here to defend" .
"We have to tip our hats to Juventus, as when they raised the tempo they were superior, there' s no doubt about it," he said.
"I was pleased the lads never let their heads drop and continued to play good football, which isn' t easy," he added.
Roma made sure Attilio Perotti's first game in charge of Livorno was one to forget, brushing their opponents aside in a convincing triumph.
Having taken over from Davide Nicola on Monday, Perotti's reign at the club could hardly have got off to a worse start.
Goals from Mattia Destro, Kevin Strootman and Adem Ljajic marked a dominant performance from the Giallorossi, who kept up the pressure on league leaders Juventus with the result.
Livorno, however, failed to get going at the Stadio Olimpico and remain four points from safety after a fifth successive defeat.
After seeing his side deny their relegation-threatened opponents a shot on target, Roma head coach Rudi Garcia said: "I am happy with this victory, as we scored three goals without allowing any opportunities to our opponents."
"We're second and we'll do everything we can to obtain the best results possible in the second half of the season," he added.
