本集简介：

The One With The Birth Mother

Chandler and Monica go to Ohio to be interviewed by the birth mother (Erica) of their prospective child. Due to a mix-up, she thinks Chandler is a doctor and Monica a reverend. Monica wants to let the illusion continue, but Chandler insists on telling the truth, which almost costs them the baby. Joey persuades a reluctant Phoebe to set him up with her friend, Sarah. Joey is hesitant to call Sarah for a second date, because during dinner she took some fries from his plate (Joey doesn't share food). Ross seeks fashion advice from Rachel and Phoebe for an upcoming date (with Joan), so they take him shopping. Their bags get mixed up; Ross ends up wearing a women's blouse -- the same blouse Joan is wearing.

故事梗概

Chandlen和Monica为领养面试，一同去了俄亥俄州。不料领养中心的人把档案弄错了。那个选中他们的女人Erica，正是看中了Chandlen是医生，Monica是牧师，才决定把孩子给他们领养的。Monica要孩子心切，想将错就错。但最终,Chandlen和Monica还是鼓起勇气告诉Erica实情，她很生气，决定不让他们收养她的孩子了。Monica很伤心，多亏Chandler说出一番感人至深的肺腑之言打动了了Erica，使Erica最终逐是选中了他们。
Joey: I can't believe it. When you guys come back, you're gonna have a baby! That is so weird!
Chandler: And so incorrect!
Monica: She's only a couple of months pregnant. She liked our application but who knows if she's gonna like us.
Ross: Come on, she's gonna love you guys!
Chandler: Uhm, thank you, but we're really trying not to get our hopes up.
Monica: And a lot could still get in our way.

get in sb’s Way意思是“妨碍，阻碍，挡道”和in the Way(挡道地处在阻碍、阻挡或干涉的位置上)是一样的。例如：Excuse me，but you are in my way．(不好意思，你挡着我的路了。)注意区分in the way和in a way (有几分，稍微，在某种意义上，在某种程度上)。例如：I like the new styles better，in a way．(某种程度上，我更喜欢这些新款式。)

下面总结一下含单词way的一些习惯用法：

有时当你问老外为什么要这样或那样用英语词和短语时，如果他觉得这个用法是约定俗成的，也解释不出个所以然来，他就会说：That's way it is．很实用哦!下次，当你语塞时，不妨也试一下。

另外，英语中的“没门儿!想都别想!”可以说“No way!”还有类似的表达是美国俚语：Pigs might fly!，其意思就是“不可能(impossible／not likely)”或Not a chance!(门儿都没有!)Forget it!及By no means．(决不。)

口语中，常说的“Don't get me wrong．”类似于“Don't take it the wrong way．”(不要误解或误会)例如：If ever I make a suggesti。on，she always takes it the wrong way and we end up arguing．(每次我提一个建议。她总是误解我的意思。每次都以争吵结束。)

way off(错了，不对)相当于on thc wrong track或wrong answer。

这里我还要提一下口语中非常常用的linking phrases，如：put it another way(换言之)及by the way(顺便说说，顺便提一下)

此外，on one's way or on the way(在途中)也十分有用。例如：Spring is on the way．She is on her way out thc door．(春天就要来到了。她往户外走。)同时还要记住pave／smooth the way for(为……铺平道路，为……做好准备)。
