More and more people are heading back to their hometowns in the traditional Spring Festival travel peak this week. Against snowfalls, traffic departments have had to step up their efforts to maintain order at railway stations, airports and bus terminals.

Beijing Capital International Airport delayed 43 flights and cancelled 7 others due to the snow. Emergency plans were initiated Saturday. Airport officials allocated more manpower to divert passenger flows. The snow on three runways has been cleared.

For city cleaners, snow is the call to return to the streets. They have been working since the snow began falling on Saturday night. Thanks to their efforts, traffic on the capital's roads remains smooth.

At Harbin railway station in northeast China, indoor ticket booths have been put to use so buyers don't have to wait in the freezing weather. Station officials have also prepared first aid kits to help passengers in need.

Guangzhou railway station in south China handled 220 thousand trips on Sunday. Express entrances have been opened for women, children and sick people. Security has also been upgraded to crackdown on crimes such as theft and robbery.

The National Meteorological Center says another cold front is expected to affect most of central and eastern China from Monday, causing massive precipitation and a dramatic temperature drop. The sharpest fall could be 10 degrees Celsius.
