嫦娥二号：中国太空探索的另一个里程碑

Another milestone has been reached in China's space exploration program. The country's second lunar probe, known as the Chang'e 2, has reached an orbit of 1.5 million kilometers from earth. It will conduct tests and gather data until the end of next year in preparation for potential explorations of Jupiter and the Sun.

The probe will stay near an area called a Lagrangian point - there are five similar points. China has now become the third space agency to visit this area. Only the European Space Agency and the US have previously sent probes there.

The orbiter had actually finished all its tasks within its designed life span of six months by April 1 this year. But scientists decided to let it carry out additional exploratory tasks as the orbiter is still in good condition and has fuel in reserve.
