长者摔倒伤重 众人冷漠围观

What would you do if you saw a senior person fall to the ground? It seems it is natural for people to help him or her up. However, few people will do that nowadays. And they have their reasons not to do that. Let us go to Wuhan city, in central China's Hubei province and find out what happened and why.

This vegetable market is the place where Mr. Li stumbled. Mr. Li used to exercise nearby in the morning. It was a typical day as Mr. Li bought some fruit in the market and was ready to go home. Mr. Zhang has been working in the market for more than six months. He was on the scene when the accident happened.
李先生就是在这个菜市场被绊倒的。过去，李先生每天早上都在这附近做运动。那是一个平常的日子，李先生在市场上买了一些水果，准备回家。张先生在这个市场里工作了6个多月。意外发生的时候他就在现场。

"Mr. Li stumbled here, because he was too hurried. We didn't dare to hold him up, for fear of getting a bad rap or worsening his condition."
“李先生是在这里被绊倒，因为他太匆忙了。我们不敢扶起他，害怕被扣上严重的罪名或使他的情况恶化。”

Mr. Li fell down. His nose began bleeding. Poor physical strength meant he couldn't stand up by himself. People around were hesitant to offer a helping hand.
李先生摔倒了。他的鼻子开始流血。体力不支使他不能自己站起来。周围人犹豫着要不要向他伸出援手。

A witness said, "We didn't dare to help out, what if we are accused of causing him to fall?"
一名目击者表示：“我们不敢帮他，要是我们被控告害他摔倒的那怎么办？”

The number of onlookers increased, with some calling for the police and an ambulance. Family members of Mr. Li were having breakfast at home when an ambulance arrived. Their neighbor informed them of the unfortunate news.
旁观者不断增加，有人报警并叫来救护车。在救护车到达时，李先生的家人在正在家里吃早餐。他们的邻居告知他们这个不幸的消息。

His neighbor said, "I was in the vegetable market in the morning, when people said an old man fell down. Police arrived on the scene, then I found the person was my neighbor."
他的邻居称：“我早上在菜市场的时候，有人说有个老人摔倒了。警察到达现场，接着我就发现那个人是我的邻居。”

Mr. Li's wife and his son hurried to the market immediately, and they held Mr. Li up. Mr. Li's son said, "My father was surrounded by at least 100 people, with blood all over his head, mouth and nose. He was lying on his stomach, and his mouth and nose was stuffed with gore."
李先生的太太和他的儿子立刻冲到现场，他们扶起了李先生。李先生的儿子表示：“我的父亲被至少100个人包围着，他的头、嘴巴和鼻子都是血。他趴在地上，嘴巴和鼻子都是血。”

Ambulance cars arrived 26 minutes later. Mr. Li was sent to a local hospital, but his respiratory track was congested by blood from his nose. When his daughter arrived at the hospital one hour later, it was too late to meet her father for the last time.
