钱塘江给观潮者呈现水之美
Every year, the autumn high tides along the Qiantang River in east China attract tourists from all over the world. Scientists say, this year's Qiantang River tides are the largest in nine years. Right now, the tidal waves are surging through Jiaxing-Shaoxing River-Crossing Bridge.
每年,中国东部钱塘江的秋季满潮吸引了来自世界各地的游客。科学家表示,今年的钱塘潮是九年里最大的。现在,浪潮正从嘉兴-绍兴河-跨江大桥穿过。
The Qiantang River tides appear each year during the eighth month of the lunar calendar, when incoming tides form a huge wave that travels against the direction of the current as the river narrows. A long tidal wave first appears at the wide mouth of the estuary during the late hours of morning, and slowly works its way up river over several hours. The largest waves this year are expected on Friday.
钱塘潮出现在每年农历八月期间,上涨的潮水形成巨大的波浪,随着河流变窄,波浪移动的方向与水流的方向相反。在上午的后几个小时里,一条长长的潮汐波出现在河口的宽口处,几个小时后慢慢地向河流涌去。今年最大的波浪预计将在周五出现。
Normally, thousands of visitors crowd the banks of Haining or Xiaoshan to watch the waves, which can swell up to 9 meters high. Surfing on such giant river tides can be a unique experience. The three-day Qiantang River International Surfing Competition is set to open Wednesday and is a sporting event only for the brave. Surfing the Qiantang tides is an age-old tradition in Zhejiang Province. There are numerous legends and stories about courageous local surfers. These stories are part of the foundation for Chinese people's admiration for people who struggle against the odds and adversity to accomplish something big.
