NBA owners and players still can’t come to an agreement to end the pro basketball labor dispute. The two sides met for more than eight hours with federal mediator George Cohen in New York on Saturday, but were unable to negotiate a resolution.

The owners set a deadline of Wednesday for the players to accept their latest proposal, or they will rescind that suggestion and instead offer 47 percent of revenues with elements of a flexible salary cap. The proposal was not well received by negotiators for the players’ association.

The NBA team owners locked the players out on July 1, and the dispute has resulted in the cancellation of the first month of the NBA schedule. Players Association president Derek Fisher and League commissioner David Stern gave their views on the latest negotiations.

Derek Fisher said, "We made the moves that we needed to make to get this deal done on the economics and we’re standing here given an ultimatum that the NBA will move to 47 percent by Wednesday with a flex cap if we don’t accept their -- what they call a 51 to 49, but really 50, with a system that is not a fair system."
