湄公河联合巡逻警察训练

The joint Mekong patrols will be conducted by police from Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and China. Fifteen Laotian policemen have just completed 20 days of training with their Chinese counterparts, in Guanlei Port, southwest China's Yunnan Province.

A tough mission lies ahead.

The 15 policemen from Laos arrived in China on November the 20th, for three weeks of training with their Chinese counterparts.

In Laos, the Mekong river can be very narrow and shallow in places, making sailing difficult. Specialist sailors have had to be brought in for the training, to help prepare the river police for the conditions.

The four-nation joint patrol is set to launch on Saturday from Guanlei Port, in Southwest China's Yunnan Province .

China will initially send 8 policemen to assist their Laotian counterparts. They will stay in Laos and continue to help with training for another three months.
