乌拉圭锁定巴西世界杯最后一席
Uruguay claimed the 32nd and final place at next year's World Cup in Brazil with a 0-0 draw against Jordan in the second leg of an intercontinental play-off Wednesday. They make the bog show with a five nil aggregate win courtesy of the thumping they gave the Jordanians in Amman last week.
Already down five nil Jordan needed devine intervention if they were going to pull this tie around. Having said that Jordan would never have expected to have made it even this far. They deserve credit for holding the 2010 world cup semifinalists. Uruguay qualified and didn’t pick up any injuries.
It’s the fourth consecutive time Uruguay has gone into an intercontinental playoff to reach the World Cup and the South Americans will be one of the eight seeded teams when the draw takes place on December the sixth.
So as qualification is now fully completed let’s take a look at all the teams who've made it. Brazil are the only nation which didn’t have to qualify as hosts. They are joined by five south America teams now Uruguay have made it but Argentina are likely to be the biggest threat to Brazil from that part of the world. Joined by Argentina, the U.S. lead the qualifying from the CONCACAF region.
In Asia, Japan were the first team to book their place at the 2014 show-piece. South Korea, Iran and Australia completing the other three spots. In Africa, Nigeria enters as continental champions but Cote D’Ivoire and Ghana are also really strong.
Italy, Spain, England and Germany are among those which qualified from Europe directly. Led by Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko, Bosnia have also qualified for Brazil. The small nation have made it to the world cup for the first time.
