Chinese lantern festival is also gaining popularity in other countries. On the other side of the globe, a festive Chinese new year temple fair has just kicked off. While at the same time in Uruguay, people are also engaged in a grand party, only its their own native carnaval.

A Chinese temple fair in the Egyptian capital Cairo.

From lion dances to woodblock printing and figurines made of dough, Egyptians are fascinated by the dazzling array of Chinese cultural elements.

"This is my fifth time at the temple fair here. More and more Egyptians come here every year. I see more of them here than Chinese." a temple visitor said.

The growing interest in Chinese culture also manifests itself in this team of Dragon dancers, made up entirely of Egyptians.

"Dragon dancing demands more than just strength, but also coordination and clear thinking, it really takes skill so I really like it." a temple visitor said.

Meanwhile in the Uruguayan capital Montevideo, locals are revelling in the action of carnaval. Lasting for 40 days, it is the longest such event in the world.

The greatest attraction here are the Candombe drums. They are made of wood and have a curved barrel with a very narrow base. The performance is also a contest, as teams eye for the favour of judges who are concealed in the crowd.

"It is great to be able to get away from the cares of life here, I want to unleash the joy in my heart." a temple visitor said.

Coming attractions also include stand-up comedy routines and many other performances, so join this massive party if you can.
