The signing of the climate change accord is taking place on the 46th World Earth Day. The movement was initiated in the US in 1970 to raise the awareness of issues concerning the environment, and the role humans must play in preserving the planet. Earth Day is now celebrated around the world. China joined in in the 1990s.
