2014-08-13来源:和谐英语

To help Liberia contain the Ebola virus, China has provided medical supplies as emergency humanitarian aid. Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and the Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Zhang Yue, attended the handover ceremony in the capital Monrovia.

The aid sent from China, is something that Liberia needs most. Medical protective clothing, monitors and medicine.

The 10-million-yuan worth of supplies were carried to Monrovia by a Chinese cargo plane, and will be distributed to hospitals and medical clinics across the country.

Chinese ambassador to Liberia, Zhang Yue, conveyed condolences from Chinese President Xi Jinping to Liberia, where more than 320 people have been killed by the virus.

He said the items were donated by the people of China, with the hope of bringing relief to the country at this critical time.

Liberian President lauded China’s assistance to the people of Liberia, as her country combats the spread of the deadly virus.

"You have proven to be a friend in need. That’s the best friend you can have...when you are in trouble, when you face hardships. That person is a true friend. Thank you so much... we are always with them," Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf said.

Ambassador Zhang says a team of Chinese experts is also expected to arrive in Liberia shortly, to join Chinese medical workers who have been working in the country.

Besides Liberia, China has also offered humanitarian aid to Guinea and Sierra Leone. Experts have been sent there to deal with the largest outbreak of the virus since Ebola first emerged in Africa nearly 40 years ago.
