美国与古巴举行重新建交的历史性会谈
The US and Cuba are set to hold historic high-level talks on restoring relations, in the Cuban capital Havana, starting from Wednesday.
The talks will cover the illegal immigration issue, and "the principles and steps to re-establishing diplomatic relations and opening embassies in both countries".US Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Roberta Jacobson, will lead her country's delegation, marking the highest level encounter between the two nations in nearly four decades.
In the lead up to the talks, a US congressional delegation traveled to Havana over the weekend, the first time in more than 50 years that US legislators have visited Cuba. This comes after US President Barack Obama and Cuban leader Raul Castro announced their decisions to normalize ties in simultaneously televised broadcasts on December 17.
