The World Health Organization says the Zika virus, a mosquito-borne disease suspected of causing serious birth defects, is expected to spread to all countries in the Americas except Canada and Chile.
Zika has suspected but uNPRoven links to microcephaly, when babies born to women infected during pregnancy have abnormally small heads. The condition is associated with incomplete brain development. Brazil by far is the hardest hit. There, more than a million people have contracted Zika, with reports of nearly four-thousand babies born with microcephaly.
CCTV's Paulo Cabral traveled to the northeastern state of Pernambuco to find out how families and health authorities are coping with the problem.
