How To Be Popular

Most people want to be popular. Being liked makes us feel valued and builds our self esteem. So we've put together this guide to making friends and boosting popularity.

Step 1: Be nice(友善)
It sounds really obvious, but the people who make friends most easily are the ones who are friendly, open and positive. Put a smile on your face, make eye contact with people, and you will find that people are just drawn to you. And friendship is not just about what you can get out of it. If you are generous and giving, you will find that your friendships flourish.

Step 2: Be yourself(做自己)
Everyone has likeable qualities, and you don't need to become a different person to fit in. If a particular group doesn't like you the way you are, consider whether you really want to be part of that bunch. Being a conformist just for the sake of it will not bring you genuine popularity.

You shouldn't have to transform your hairstyle or clothes, or starve yourself to be thin, just so you can fit in with other people. Go for a look that makes you happy. And whether you want to have friends who are like you, or a more diverse group of friends, make sure the choice is yours.

Step 3: Take care of yourself(照顾好自己)
Although you don't need to make big changes to how you look, you should still take pride in your appearance. Keep yourself clean, make sure you don't smell, and wear something that makes you feel good about yourself.
Remember that if you treat yourself well, it means you like yourself, and others will like you too.

Step 4: Get out more(常出去走动走动)
Being popular does not mean having lots of virtual friends on the web. You need to get out into the real world, and put yourself in social situations where you can meet people. This doesn't have to involve wild nightlife - it can be a club or group related to whatever you're interested in. Remember that when you're feeling shy and withdrawn, being alone in your bedroom is not going to help. Forcing yourself into social situations will help you build confidence and self esteem. But just remember that being confident does not mean showing off.

Step 5: Keep it up(好好维系)
Once you have friends, keep them. Don't spread yourself too thinly. Make time for what your friends want to do, be supportive of their needs, and care for them when they're feeling down. That way, they will be friends for life. Done.
