2013年3月初，上海黄浦江松江段水源保护区中陆续打捞出死猪，截止3月12日，已打捞出5916头，官方称死猪没有对水质产生影响。

3月5日，上海黄浦江上游发现大量死猪。

3月5日-3月10日，黄浦江水域开始陆续打捞死猪，捞出死猪的数字直线上升。从最初的几十头，发展到几千头。

3月11日，上海市政府新闻办公室称初步确定死猪主要来自浙江嘉兴地区。

3月11日，农业部称当地已打捞的死猪全部进行了无害化的处理；并称当地未发生大规模的动物疫情。

3月12日，浙江省农业厅和嘉兴市称，嘉兴并未发生生猪疫情，目前正在协助上海调查死猪来源，并组织力量加紧清理河道。嘉兴市畜牧局和环保局均承认存在养殖户随意丢弃死猪的现象。

3月12日，截至当日15时，上海全市已累计出动打捞船只233艘，共打捞死猪5916头。目前打捞量已开始下降。
