go on后接不定式和动名词有何区别
动词go on之后既可接不定式也可接动名词,但有区别:
(1) 后接动名词时,表示不停地做某事或继续做某事,既可以指不停地做同一件事,也可以指中途停顿之后接着做同样的事,其中的动名词为宾语,表示“继续”的对象。如:
I oughtn’t to go on living that way. 我不应该继续这样生活。
No way will I go on working for that man. 我不再给那个人工作了。
You can’t go on working without a break. 人不能不停地工作而不休息。
You’ll crack up if you go on working so hard. 你继续这样拼命干下去,你身体会吃不消的。
I went on talking, though continually interrupted by Dussel. 我继续谈,尽管不断被杜塞尔打断。
Mother went on cooking; I went on with my homework. 妈妈继续做饭,我继续做功课。
注:有语法学家认为go on后接的不是动名词,而是现在分词。
(2) 接不定式时,则表示做完某事后接着做某事,其中的不定式不是宾语,而是目的状语,表示“继续”的目的是为做某一事。如:
He went on to show us how to do it. 他接着又教我们如何做。
Go on to do the other exercises after you have finished this one. 做完这个练习后,请接着做其它的练习。
He went on to tell us an interesting story. 接着他给我们讲了个有趣的故事。
After approving the agenda, we went on to discuss finance. 通过了议事日程后,我们接着讨论财政问题。
After describing the planned improvements, she went on to explain how much they would cost. 在讲完了打算改进的项目后,她继续说明这要花多少钱。
